Out of the box, Transmission works like a champ. But there might be some tweaks you'll need for your particular set up. If you go to the Edit menu you will see the Preferences entry. Click that to get to the the preferences goodies. One of the more important preferences is the Block List found under the Peers tab. This blocklist is a Blutack Level 1 Blocklist. There are many more options to get into, the blocklist should be the first you take care of. Make sure you check Enable Auto Updates for Blocklists.
Transmission is one of the easiest torrent clients available. And if you like the idea of a simple torrent client, but you use Mac you can have your Transmission as well. Give Transmission a go, you won't regret it. Transmission is lame. I get very low speeds with it. At the same time I get more speed with other clients.
I use uTorrent with Wine. I tried Deluge and liked it a lot, but it crashed too often and used up way too much memory. Sorry for asking. Is there any way to check if Transmission really does execute it after finishing? Another thing, is it possible for this sh-script to set permissions on the extracted files? I get after it extracts! It does not run after Transmission completion. I can't make it run as cron either.
But if I run it like "sh unrar. But why can't I make it run from Transmission or Cron? I have permission on the file, and it is executable. Here's my cron setup:. To check if transmission is firing the script check transmission's logs or just do a dummy test dl, lots of small legit torrents out and just toss a rar in the folder so when it finishes if it's working properly it will unrar it.
I think I got it working with cron now, by setting the permissions to the folder. Do you have a script that will set the file permissions after unrar? I figured this would be a good spot to ask the pros Thanks for your time!
Re: How to torrent anonymously? Post by jch » Thu Aug 06, pm I'd like to find out if there's a way to torrent anonymously. I do support BitTorrent ideologically and in practice, but like anyone with an always-on connection I worry about I certainly don't know enough about this type of internet security to understand if I'm at some sort of risk, so I'm poking around to see if i can find an answer.
Signing up for a VPN service might really save you from expensive and unnecessary law suits. Meaning you can download whatever you wish without having to worry about anybody invading your privacy. At CactusVPN though we do have some rules as to which servers you can torrent from due to various reasons. The server from the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Switzerland and Romanian are the only locations we allow to use to download torrents anonymously.
So make sure you stay one step ahead and use a VPN service whilst torrenting and ideally at all times whilst you are online. You should never underestimate how important privacy is whilst you are trawling the web. Why to stay anonymous while downloading torrents?
